Adieu, my Bose

         Adieu, my Bose

         Sleep on my beloveth  Bose

We both trod the path in the past

          Now you are going   alone

But don’t worry I will  join  you  one day

To  continue from  where we  stopped

It’s just a matter of time

        Goodbye and goodnight

My beloveth Bose

I removed my belt, wrist watch, bling bling , shoes and raised up my hands to be searched .I then passed through the screening gate  .My eyes were red, swollen and heavy but I maintained that  bold face .As I looked back at her and the poor boy our eyes  met. They cried loudly and waved their hands again. Not knowing that would be the last time I would see her .

The above drama was displayed   at Gatwick Airport , United Kingdom before boarding the plane back to Nigeria  on the 17th of January 2017.

Before I  left  Longheath Gardens, Surrey, UK we discussed how we would start our own on- line media. She studied English from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria and capped it with a Master’s degree while in the UK where she had spent almost 14years  and already a citizen. Infact  she had just arrived from the United States to meet her nieces ( the Lambos ) to inform them of her application to one of the Universities for her Phd program. She was a British citizen by  naturalization .Yes, we were good combination, she read English and was good and  me too  can walk all the  length and breadth of Lagos and Yoruba land sourcing for stories   and she in the UK had known many places too.

Bose, ever smiling

We had a big dream, big one .Dream that was later shattered into pieces. Dream that was never realized. Dream that never berthed .Dream that was  shred into pieces. I am pained .

Then the big sad news erupted like volcanic  eruption in the evening of March 22 last year as my cellphone rang and the following conversation ensued   : “Is that Mr.Taiwo Abiodun, I am sorry your wife can no longer breath again , her breathing is bad”, an Apostolic Church Pastor  in the UK where we both worshiped told me on phone .I asked “Is she

Bose with her confidant, and next of kin Mrs.Kennie Aderiye[nee Lambo]

Is she dead?Tell me ”.” Yes, she had just passed on”, he said in low tone. On hearing  the news my heart sank .I became restless. My head was swollen. I developed headache, stomach ache  .I walked like a mad man .I was confused .”What type of pastor is  breaking  this sad news  to you .Does he know where you are? Is  this how to break bad news?” , my former boss Mr .Olayinka Oyegbile [Deputy Editor Sunday] cried. Yes,  I was in his car going home with Mr.Yemi Ajayi, head of Computer section  Sunday Desk, at The Nation newspaper .

I managed to get home.Time  now 11:30pm . I live alone .Living alone  is bad .It is suicidal .It is not good .I went to the kitchen , grabbed a kitchen  knife .Different thoughts flooded my mind : should I stab myself and go the way she went? .who will know ? . What will people say ? I later called my landlord and told him what happened at 12:30 am .I waited impatiently to hear the cock to crow.I went to bed thinking it would be a dream.Yes, we used to dream that something happened , and would be dream not reality. I prayed it should be a dream. No, it wasn’t .

The following day I started receiving  calls , calls from local to international. .And I was weeping like a baby. It was a big loss. A big blow. My eyes were swollen. I blew my nose .I looked askance. Living alone is bad and dangerous , unfortunately I am now used to it .

Ours was pure and undiluted love.Ours was love wantintin, Love in Tokyo.

Bose with her sister, Dr.Esther Lambo , Dr. Bola Ogundimu [nee Lambo] and Lambo’s grandchildren in Atlanta

I had prayed to  let us become the Greek mythological  Baucis and Philemon ,the  couple who loved each other and prayed to God not to see each other’s death .And they later became  a tree and one became a rope and intertwined .Today , if you see a rope that twined on an oak tree that is the couple .I would have let us become …..we loved ourselves .

We met in Owo  in 1981 while she was in her final year at St Catherine’s Girls school .Immediately after her school

In Owo in 1981,self and Bose

certificate she  went to live with her sister in  Ibadan and trust me ,  I pursued her there. While briefly in  Lagos we gave ourselves no breathing space . In Ilorin where she schooled and stayed with her sister,  Dr.Esther Lambo ( wife of Professor Eyitayo Lambo , former Health Minister ) I was there.

Bose  with Dr. Bola Ogundimu [nee Lambo] in Atlanta, USA

No lady came across me that I fell in love with like Bose for she possessed exemplary character , she had that beautiful  face with a gap tooth and rotund body .That is the story of Peter Taiwo Abiodun and Evelyn Bose Abiodun [nee Aragbaiye].She walked gently and ran away from trouble .She was NEVER a fault finder like some women who complain , talk and talk and talk without an iota of sense .Yes, she was unlike some women who would all their lives be messing around with  men . She maintained good culture .She could stomach many things . She preferred to keep quiet when annoyed  and walked away , she could be confided in , she was neither  loose nor  garrulous.

She was unlike me a talkative, going out type, and rascal .

What could have snuffed life out of her? you will ask .

Yes, it is that dreaded  monster that knows no bound irrespective of sex and age ,race, culture and  irrespective of medical facilities and daily research on it.

Painfully   it all happened where all facilities are available .But what exactly killed her ?

Bose in Carlifonia , 2016

Bose at St.Louis,  Missouri in 2016, during the 50years anniversary of St.Catherine’s Girls, Owo

It is that terrible , stupid,  idiot ,good for nothing monster that consumes anybody irrespective of status , sex, height .She died of Cancer .

When I was informed ( after keeping it for weeks ) that she had cancer , I was shocked for she never exhibited any trait of sickness at all while I was  there .

She only complained of dizziness, fatigue and that was all.We went to her GP for check up .She forced me to check my BP for I have phobia for these medical …..

We would leave  our baby at home and go to places , many places like London Bridge, Essex, Cardiff, Manchester , we traveled by air, sea and underground train. We went to theatre , rode in a boat, ship and went to  tourist centers .Yes we visited  many other places not knowing that was the last enjoyment we would have. And the questions that came to my mind is ”Did she have the premonition of her death?

We took pictures, laughed and ran about like babies. She would call me Babalawo of The Nation and she would introduce herself as ‘ Iyawo Babalawo  of The Nation’, Oh my God. It was as if we had just met .

Every morning I would walk down with her to her workplace and she would call me after closing to come and join her to walk home .

It was love , we walked together, ran ups and downs like babies!

‘Taiye, Bobo T, T Bobo, I am Babalawo  of The Nation’s wife ”,she would hail me .She understood me the more , accepted my rascality .

And the service of songs  was held  in London led by Mrs .Kennie Aderiye( née Lambo) and another in Nigeria .

At St Patrick’s church we were billed , and this is a story for another day .I will write epistle on ‘ burial in Anglican churches’

Yes, we all gathered together. Her school’s alma mater , St Catherine’s Girls school came to pay their last respect. They also contributed financially. She was popularly called Evelyn Aragbaworld among her classmates.

Professor Eyitayo Lambo and his wife , Dr.Esther Funmilayo Lambo wept as they saw the corpse .Yes, Dr.Lambo  summoned courage to give her younger sister her last respect. Bose was the last born of the Aragbaiye family. Can one imagine the pains and agony, no wonder we gnashed our teeth. She had seven living older  brothers and sisters .

The Lambos were fantastic, they did not forget their great auntie who took care of them when they were young.Rev.( Mrs) Ladun Adenikinju ( née Abiodun ) was proud of the Lambos for flying  the corpse down to Nigeria as she said ” Ori Ade ko nsun ‘ta” ( Kings are not buried in foreign land). My great thanks to Rev[Mrs Lovett Adenikinju for her support throughout the period.

How many can fly a corpse down to Nigeria? It is very expensive .No wonder many are buried over there, what of the logistics , mental torture and stress one goes through to bring down the corpse?.It was a painful exit .Need not to tell how we broke down and wept when asked to identify her corpse  for the first time at LASUTH, Ikeja – Lagos. Bose  was sleeping peacefully in that trunk box with her scarf/muffler on her neck .

And the question on everybody’s lips is ‘Why Bose? why?’. Mr Dare Aragbaiye was present at the wake keep.He was too sad , very sad seeing his younger sister going six feet below the ground.No,ooo.He wept. He  is a complete gentleman who hardly speak but always smile, but that day , no smiling.

I saw Balewa and Okotie Eboh’s bodies

”I saw  Balewa and Okotie Eboh’s bodies”

Bishop Adebayo

Tafawa     and   Okotie Eboh

”I saw   Balewa and Okotie Eboh’s bodies”

Bishop Zacheaus Ayinla Adebayo narrates how he saw the dead bodies of   the late head  of state Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and the  Finance Minister Festus Okotiebo which he discovered in a bush 52 years ago.He spoke with taiwoabiodun.com

One man that is not happy  every year  when the country remembers the January 15, 1966  that consumed some of our leaders is Bishop Zacheaus Ayinla Adebayo Of  African Church , who lives in Abule- Oke ,Iyana Ilogbo, Lagos /Abeokuta Express Road, Ogun state.

According to Adebayo , he is not happy that some people are rewriting History, he therefore seized the opportunity to correct those  misinforming the public with false and untrue story of how the duo Sir  Abubakar Tafawa Balewa and the Finance Minister Festus Okotie Eboh  died, and how their bodies were found in the bush at Coker, Iyanalogbo, along Lagos / Abeokuta Express Road.
According to Adebayo , the memory of the slain bodies of the late Balewa and Okotie  Eboh will forever remain in his memory as long as he lives .
Adebayo who is a Bishop went down memory lane to speak about his shock and effort to report the case.
According to him , he was still in his early 20s when the First Military coup took place in Nigeria.
Speaking with taiwoabiodun, com  he said “my late father , Timothy Osho Adebayo had rice plantation farm in Iyana – Ilogbo, Lagos / Abeokuta express road then, I was pressed and wanted to go to the toilet and I needed to cross the road, as I got to where I would defecate in the bush I saw the body of Okotie Eboh in pyjamas , and by my right hand also was the body of Tafawa Balewa in white leaning on a Palm tree , he was shot on  the  chest while Okotie Eboh’s side was riddled with bullets . I saw the two bodies with my naked eyes, the bodies were already decomposing” , he continued ” Immediately I saw the two bodies I went to tell my father that I saw two bodies the government was looking for. There was a pond at the back of where Tafawa Balewa laid and we all ran back home. We alerted other farmers to vacate the place and they rushed back home”.
The Bishop continued “We had heard the announcement over the radio that whoever saw these bodies should come and report .Then the following day some pressmen came and among them was one Mr .Segun Osoba who reported the story , he was with The Daily Times then, and he later became the governor of Ogun state. The third day the two corpses were taken away by some soldiers”
He continued ” several years later when Osoba came to campaign here and I introduced myself to him that I was the one that spotted the place where those corpses were discovered for him to write his story then , he was surprised and promised to make the place a tourist Center .
“When he became the Ogun State governor I reminded him and he did promise to do something but nothing was done.If the place had been turned into a tourist Center now and marked down for everybody to know the spot it would have added to our museum. I remember then that many traditionalists came to mark the area and scooped the earth . But since the place was not mapped out for recognition nobody cared about the place again”.
Adebayo appeals to the state and federal governments to make the place a tourist Center, he said ” if it is in a civilized country the place would be honored and mapped out as a tourist attraction Center in the honor of the fallen heroes and this would even be a source of income to both the state and federal governments”
Beating his chest, Adebayo said ” I want those who are rewriting and distorting history to come for public debate.Today, I still live around the place. I know the very spot .My concern is that the place should be a monument to commemorate the remembrance of these fallen heroes “.
He spoke with confidence “I am now 75 years , I remember that year 1966 , it looks like yesterday .Later Segun Osoba came here to verify it when the news spread and he later went to publish the story .
The Bishop who is still bitter,  said ” Osoba promised that the place will be turned into a tourist Centre but nothing was done .The place is now a town , but nevertheless I can still recognize the spot .Whenever I remember Janunary 15 , I am always sad .As a Bishop I feel sad”.
He boasts to face anybody that has a contrary report to come out openly for public debate ,” Whoever doubts this story should invite me and I am ready to tell the public “

”How they stole my two kids ”

How  they  stole  my two  kids

….No photos of the kids  and tenants

….Mother detained overnight

……Tenants’ names  and address unknown

……Mother going insane

It is exactly one month   when Madam Bimbo Lekan’s two kids were  stolen   from  her house .Since then , the woman has been behaving funny.  She spoke with taiwoabiodun.com

The mother’s present condition

The building houses  an old woman who they claimed  is Bimbo’s grandmother. For Bimbo she has no other person to console her as she receives  heap of blames  from all nooks and crannies for being careless about her two lovely kids who were stolen under her care .

The clothes she claimed she was  washing  have become useless as the kids to wear them are gone, and it could be forever except God intervenes

Now she has relocated to her granny’s house and she  hardly eat these days , the mother said, adding ”she could run mad if she is not properly taken care of that is why I  am staying with her  .Since the incidence Bimbo  has been taken away from where the incident happened and now living with her mother and grandmother who are monitoring her movement as she has changed from the that joyful mother of two kids to a childless mother  now seeking the face of God.

When our reporter  met her she was sandwiched  in-between her mother, grandmother and  her aunt sobbing, suddenly,  she glanced at  the ceiling fan   and  cried  ‘’Sorrow  should be my second name .Where will I see these kids again?’’ as she said this she went outside to look at those passing bye  and came back  to sit on the sofa again .Many times she would look askance and laugh  wildly then walked  round the compound calling the names of her stolen children. Last Saturday she ran to the  Post office to see the vendor and asked whether the  retrieved kids from a Catholic Priest were her own. This has been the way Mrs .Bimbo Lekan whose two children [Blessing and Ayomide Lekan] whose  ages are  two years and 8months and the younger one 8months  were stolen before her nose on that fateful day of January 30,this year.

My   story

On January 30, this year, a strange couple who pretended to have come to rent a room after paying for one year ,stayed for six days and  later disappeared with my  two kids under the pretence that she wanted to buy biscuit for them. Up till the moment  the kids have not been found.

According to Bimbo the mother of the kids , a man who claimed   to have come  from Delta state came to rent a room  in their building at 27 , Okedogbon street, Owo.

‘’When the man came , my mother told him that she  preferred  a married man living with his wife and the man went to bring   a woman he claimed to be his wife .We asked them to pay 2,000 naira per month but they begged for 1,500 naira and they paid for one year and   that is 18,000 naira and  the money was given to my uncle who had no time to give them a receipt for he was preparing for his baby’s naming ceremony.’’, she said

She continued ‘’On that fateful day I was washing  clothes at the backyard while my daughter the  older one was  sleeping while  the baby was crying , since the woman said she is an hairdresser I asked her to help me do my daughter’s hair .She carried the  baby that  was crying  and put her on her back , later the one that slept woke up and she held her saying she was going to buy things for them .That was all .

”I never thought they could be devilish and evil. It was when we didn’t see these children  that we raised alarm .

I went to the police station but I was detained , saying I was the first suspect since I did not come to report early and I spent one night at the station .

It was when I finished washing and asked after  the woman  that we knew what happened,  we ran inside to search for them but only saw the bag filled with used  carpets’’.

The woman  said ‘’ we were shocked that such a thing could happen .We did not know their names and we didn’t ask. All what we know is that they are from  Delta  State.

According to her mother , after reporting at the Police station, they  also visited    spiritualists  to seek for divine intervention.

NO PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE VICTIMS AND THE SUSPECTS

When  asked to bring the  photographs of the kids  , she said ‘ I have only the picture of the senior one , and that is an old picture  , I don’t have their pictures.

Bimbo’s mother has been guiding her daughter to avoid her from committing suicide , she said ‘’ I go out with her even when going to the toilet, the way she has been acting since the incidence did not let us let us leave her alone .We heard over the news that a couple was arrested with two kids but when we read the paper it is not our own case.

Mrs. Aladeniyi

”I was in the class on Tuesday  when  I  saw  a man in front of my class ,  he called me to come outside and I too asked him  to come in, he then asked  me whether I am Mummy Korede, he asked ‘’why are you threatening my soon’’, I asked ” how ?”,  he then   dragged me outside the school compound  and tore my clothes ,he  beat me with his elbow while the school  children were shouting ”‘Daddy Samuel  had killed our auntie ,that was how a teacher came from the secondary school section to rescue me for in our Nursery and Primary school we are all women working there .The  man  held  the teacher’s clothe and gave him head butt, he    wounded him. We called the police ,reported the case at the police station and the   DPO took me to his  office where I fainted , later I was rushed  to the hospital  and then to  General hospital .They have just discharged me from the school”.

Uncle Femi

”After leaving my class I was called by one of our staff in Primary section  and I was told a man came to  attack one of our staff here , on getting there I saw the man who was very furious   , very furious in manner and in  anger . I saw the kind of beating he gave the woman , and I tried top stop him , but he he was trying to fight him back, trying to  forge his way …I said how can he come to the school and fight one of our staff ,  as I grabbed him he also grabbed me back ..I said you cannot beat this woman its not possible, I held him so that the police would meet him here  ,  along the line   when he knew he could not go  , he then knocked my mouth .

The blood on my shirt is from the   stain of blood  where I was being knocked

And he started spitting the blood on his shirt .It was a stain of blood where I was being knocked by the man , he is Mr.Ogbonaya,  he has two children in that primary section. Immediately they took us to the police station

.

School Bursar narrates her own side of the story

My name is Mrs .  Olorunfemi Mopelola, I am the school’s Bursar. I was in school on Tuesday and while   in the office   one of the pupils ran to me and  shouted ’’ mummy, mummy Daddy Samuel has killed our anuntie o ‘’o  and I rushed to the class and met   the man beating the woman [ Mistress]  Mrs Aladeniyi  Folasade .We took her to the police station the woman, Mrs.Aladeniyi  now  fainted then we took her to the Health Centre later to General hospital, Owo where she was admitted .

Uncle Femi

Ogbonnaya Ordu

”I  have two children at Ogo Oluwa  Nursery and Primary school, and on Monday when    my child , Samuel  Ogbonaya arrived from school, he said one of their aunties beat him  on the ground that he wore new uniform [ which is the old uniform the  school is  phasing out  . According to him , his teacher  said he should not come to school the following day.

I used to buy the   uniform from school, and for the fact that  this one has torn I went  to the market to buy the old one , they are still using it along side with the new one .  And since it is the same old  uniform they are still using .And on Tuesday the following day  I went   to the school and  I met Mama Seun the  school bursar and asked her why  they  are  beating my son and he said he was not going to school  unless  we go with him. I met mama Seun the bursar who denied  they were not chasing them out .

I went with him and showed them the torn old one, I pleaded to them that I had just paid 14,000 naira their school fees .I  told Mama Seun that I wanted to tell the teacher that I had no money to buy the new one now.I said let me go and explain to  the teacher but Mama Seun the bursar said no.On reaching there, my son said they sent one  Nove to call him and their teacher   started beating him.

I told the woman that I wanted to see her[ Mrs.Aladeniyi] the teacher , I explained to her that I had seen Mama Seun who said nobody was driven away because of school uniform but the woman  said I had no right to talk to her and should leave. I told her it is the part of the money I paid that they used to pay her salary , and I said I love the school that was why I was there and that the school met my standard .

She asked me to leave the class , we started argument  and she asked me to leave her office, I was dragging her hand before those people ran inside ,,  ..I didn’t beat her because I   know the implication they would say you beat somebody’s wife .On getting outside , I saw one of them called  Femi who just rushed me without asking anything , and I said can’t you help me out  and the lady too grabbed me . You can see my shirt .. the way they  tied me ,I was choking … … I was chocking, I am a Christian I will not lie even though I am going to court , I just tried to hit the boy with my head , immediately blood started rushing ,when they saw the degree of the blood rushing ,,,,, luckily the police people arrived and took us to the  station and I made my statement , we waited for the owner of the school, they said his brother , a pastor came to bail us .

I didn’t beat the lady , some of them  can frame up just anything.

However, the three showed evidence of their wounds, while Aladeniyi said she was injured and was hospitalized, Femi showed his bruised lips and teeth while Ogbonnaya showed his wounded neck to taiwoabiodun.com

The three were charged to Court and  had been remanded yesterday since they could not pay 20,000 naira in  fulfillment of  their bail condition.
